Syria has been ruled by the Syrian branch of, darkfall powerleveling, the pan-Arab Baath party since 1963. In 1970 took Hafez al-Assad in power, while his son Bashar took over as president in 2000.
The country has two months have been marked by clashes between protesters and police. Protesters demand democratic reforms, greater freedoms and the regime's departure.

Monday, the EU countries agreed to strengthen sanctions against Syria, and also the country's President Bashar al-Assad is now affected by such measures.
Several key Syrian officials, including Assad, would be imposed travel restrictions and get their assets blocked.
– Syria condemns EU sanctions against the people at a time when the country is trying to preserve the security and introduce a national dialogue as part of reforms, AFP quoted the state news agency SANA .

Already 13 members of the Syrian regime, including Assad's brother, brought up on the EU sanctions list.
– It was inevitable to impose sanctions on Assad, according to Germany's Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle.
– When someone oppresses his own people in such a manner and using violence against peaceful demonstrators, can not get this go unchallenged by the EU, "he said on his way to the foreign ministerial meeting which was held in Brussels on Monday.

- Uncertain impact
Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt is unsure what effect the sanctions will have, but points out that there are so many other options.
– This is an instrument we have at our disposal – to gradually strengthen sanctions. We hope it has an effect, "Bildt told TT.
Last week the United States adopted sanctions against the President himself, and now follows the EU for. U.S. President Barack Obama also stepped up rhetoric against the Assad regime in his speech about the region on Thursday.
Syria since mid-March experienced a people revolt against the Assad regime. According to human rights groups and the UN is at least 850 people killed as a result of the regime's use of force to stop the protesters.
